The Desert Diva’s Oman Blog Series Number 5 – Omani Beach Football
شوف (arabic) shoof: look! see! (english)
Welcome to the Desert Diva’s Oman Blog Series, where I share some of the thousands of pictures I have taken over my many years of travelling in the Arabian Peninsula.
Omani Beach Football
Oman is, as we say in Scotland, “mad keen on fitba” as is demonstrated by this Oman beach football snap above. Even the most remote village has a rough football pitch, often with goalposts, which comes alive with football players in the hour before sunset prayer, and no visitor can truly say they have “seen” Oman without witnessing a game. This photo was taken on the beach at Salalah in the month of December.
And if you are walking your dog along that beach, you’ll be greatly amused at how some young Omanis don’t get the concept of a pet and smile broadly as some of them realise, when the ball comes in her direction, she’d be a great defender with brilliant ball “handling” skills.
Experience the delights of Oman
The Sultanate of Oman is a truly wonderful country, full of beautiful places to visit and interesting things to see. Some tourists are content to spend their holidays within the confines of their luxurious Arabian-style 4-star hotels, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, if you step outside of the confines of your hotel, you might find something unusual, quirky or bizarre to photograph, and as a bonus, any Omanis you encounter will bowl you over with their kindness and hospitality.
I have travelled extensively throughout the Sultanate and have not seen half of all there is to see. Will you follow me and شوف Oman?
