When Sultan Qaboos acceded to the throne on 23 July 1970, Oman had very few paved roads. He set about changing that and today the road structure of Oman allows the tourist and traveller to reach almost any part of the country.
That’s not to say that all the existing tracks are now smooth tarmac. This is the reason why you need to be observant, as you should in any location that you’re behind the wheel. Road conditions can dramatically change and you should be aware of warning signs such as that above. Here, our sign is telling you that the road ahead twists and turns ahead as well as the danger of driving straight off a mountainside.
The watchword is to always plan ahead and know what road conditions you are likely to meet. Safe Driving!
