Who Are My Guided Self-Drive Adventures in Oman For?
Since 2018, I’ve been leading small groups deep into Oman’s incredible landscapes. Although my guests come from different backgrounds and age groups, they all share a few things in common. They love a little adventure, a bit of the unknown, and the thrill of going far off the beaten path – but they also appreciate safety, comfort, and expert guidance too.
These adventures aren’t for adrenaline junkies chasing bungee jumps or sheer cliff faces. They’re for people who want to explore quietly, deeply, and with confidence – knowing that they’re in good hands. With over 15 years of offroad and overland experience across the Gulf, I guide every tour myself, with the assistance of a licenced Omani Guide, and have a solid support system on standby. Past guests have told me how safe they felt – even when we’re hours away from the nearest road.
Perfect For…
- Curious explorers aged 35 to 75 (and sometimes beyond!)
- Nature lovers and photographers
- People who enjoy driving but want support and camaraderie
- Anyone keen to learn more about Oman’s geology, wildlife, and culture
- Families looking to make memories on a truly amazing experience
Accommodation: A Mix of Wild and Welcoming
We often journey through areas where hotels simply don’t exist – and that’s part of the magic. At these times we wild camp in stunning spots. You might be sitting around a campfire in the desert, under a sky strewn with stars, or watching foxes dash through the wadi. Some nights, we camp near the sea and marvel at the bioluminescent waves.
Facilities? Let’s be honest – bathrooms on wild camp nights are alfresco. But we always plan our exit routes with a stop at a nearby mosque or fuel station the next day for proper facilities.
Other nights are spent in clean, comfortable local hotels – not 5-star luxury, but carefully chosen gems with good beds and hot showers
What About the Driving?
Around 40% of the trip is offroad: think gravel tracks, wadis, dunes, and beach. We travel convoy-style, at a relaxed pace. No previous offroad driving experience is needed – I’m a qualified coach and have even instructed at the VIP Experience for the Dakar Rally. If you’re keen to learn, I’ll guide you through every challenge.
Can Kids Join?
Yes, with a few caveats. Some guests have brought children along, and they’ve loved spotting fossils, animal tracks, and helping set up camp. The minimum recommended age is 5, and families should be happy with early nights and a bit of dust
Can I Join Solo?
Our pricing is based on two people sharing a vehicle – and ideally, that’s how we recommend you join. (Our rental car partners supplies us with Nissan Patrol Y62, and these can accommodate up to 4 people in comfort.) It’s great to have someone beside you spotting wildlife, helping navigate, or sharing the experience. One person can join if they’re willing to pay the full car price plus a small supplement for single rooms in hotels – and we reserve the right to increase our convoy to a maximum of 8 cars in this case.
Where Do We Start?
Most tours start in Muscat. For our Wild Wonders of Oman itinerary, guests bringing their own car can also join us from Nizwa. The final night is spent in a beautiful 4* hotel near Muscat International Airport, with a farewell dinner in a beautiful restaurant nearby, serving delicious Omani specialities.
What Will You Get from This Tour?
A real insight into Oman – its landscapes, people, and traditions. An adventure with structure but flexibility, where there’s room for detours if I spot something interesting in the distance. You’ll leave with new knowledge, new friendships, and unforgettable memories.
Three Ways to Join Our Wild Wonders of Oman Tours:
- Join-In Tour: Individuals, couples, or families can sign up to join a scheduled tour. The next one departs Muscat on Saturday 13th December 2025. We require a minimum of 6 adults in 3 vehicles to go ahead. More info here
- Private Small Group: Gather your own group – perfect for friends, families, incentive trips, or even pre-wedding getaways (instead of a traditional Stag Do or Hen Night). Choose your own dates (between mid-October and mid-April). If you have a group of 8 or more people, then this can be the most cost effective way to do the trip. More info here
