Practical, real-world advice for travellers who want to explore Oman by car, properly, safely, and with confidence.

If you’re considering a self-drive trip in Oman, you’ve probably already realised that it’s not just about hiring a car and heading off. Rules, road types, vehicle requirements, and local regulations all matter, and getting them wrong can limit your trip or create unnecessary problems.

I’m Marina Bruce, also known as The Desert Diva. I’ve spent over 18 years travelling across Oman by road, on highways, mountain tracks, desert routes, and remote coastlines. Through my work with Arabian Cities & Sands, I design carefully planned self-drive journeys, but I also believe in sharing the practical knowledge that helps people travel well.

That’s why I created a public Facebook group:

Oman Self-Drive Insights by Marina, The Desert Diva

What the Group Is For

This group is a place for clear, experience-based guidance for topics such as:

• Car hire and insurance, including what is actually permitted
• 2WD vs 4×4 and what those labels really mean in practice
• Mountain roads, desert access, and remote routes
• Parking rules, speed cameras, and common fines
• How to make the most of your time without rushing or taking unnecessary risks

Members are welcome to ask questions, and I also encourage experienced travellers to share their own insights. The aim is thoughtful, respectful knowledge-sharing, not promotion.

I’ll always keep my most specialised routes and off-the-beaten-track experiences for my private clients, but if you’re planning to drive in Oman and want to do it properly, this group will give you the clarity and confidence to do so.

And if at any point you would like a fully curated self-guided, self-drive journey, with car hire, hotels, route planning, maps, e-guides and on-trip support, I’m always happy to help.
