✨ This Week’s Highlights
It has been a little while since I last shared a website update – and with good reason. The last few months have been spent refining routes, updating knowledge, and turning years of on-the-ground experience into clear, practical itineraries that travellers can genuinely use.
I’m delighted to share two major updates:
a brand new Saudi Arabia blog post, and the launch of two in-depth 13-night self-drive itineraries – one for Saudi Arabia, and one for Oman.
If you’re curious about travelling independently in the Middle East, these are a great place to start.
✍️ New on Our Blog
Saudi Arabia is one of the most talked-about destinations in the Middle East right now – and also one of the least understood.
My latest blog post focuses on what it’s actually like to travel through Saudi Arabia as an independent visitor, based on real road time, real conversations, and first-hand experience. I cover driving, landscapes, culture, and the practical realities that people often feel unsure about before they go.
This isn’t a glossy overview or a tick-box guide. It’s written for travellers who want context, confidence, and a clearer picture of what lies beyond the headlines.
If Saudi Arabia is on your radar – or you’re simply curious – this post will give you a grounded, honest starting point. You can read it here.
✈️ New Holiday Itineraries
Saudi Arabia
13 Nights | Self-Drive Adventure
This 13-night Saudi Arabia self-drive itinerary has been designed for confident, curious travellers who want to explore the country properly, at their own pace.
The route links together vast desert landscapes, dramatic escarpments, historic sites, and modern Saudi cities, with sensible driving days and plenty of flexibility built in. It’s ideal for those who enjoy the freedom of the open road but value having a well-thought-out framework behind them.
As with all my itineraries, this is not a rigid schedule. It’s a carefully curated route supported by mapping, notes, and local insight – so you can choose what to linger over and what to pass by.
This is Saudi Arabia beyond first impressions: expansive, welcoming, and endlessly interesting.
Oman
13 Nights | Self-Drive Discovery
Oman remains one of my favourite countries to design self-drive holidays for – and this 13-night Oman itinerary brings together the very best of what it offers.
From coastlines and wadis to mountain roads, desert landscapes, and quietly fascinating towns, this route is ideal for travellers who want variety without rushing. Driving distances are realistic, the roads are excellent, and the experience is rich without being overwhelming.
This itinerary suits couples and small groups who want culture, scenery, and freedom in equal measure – with the reassurance that every day has been thoughtfully planned by someone who knows the country intimately.
It’s a confident, rewarding way to experience Oman well beyond the surface – read it here.
📺 New Community Resource – Oman Self-Drive Insights
I’ve recently launched a new Facebook group:
Oman Self-Drive Insights (by Marina, The Desert Diva).
The aim is simple – to dispense solid, reliable, experience-based advice for people planning to explore Oman by car.
There is a lot of conflicting and outdated information online when it comes to driving in Oman. This group exists to cut through the noise and offer practical guidance based on real routes, recent travel, and many years of on-the-ground experience.
Inside the group, members will find:
-
honest advice on driving conditions, routes, and distances
-
insight into wadis, mountains, desert edges, and coastal roads
-
realistic expectations about what’s doable (and what isn’t)
-
answers to common questions from first-time self-drive travellers
Whether someone is at the early dreaming stage or already planning a route, the group is designed to be a calm, trustworthy space for anyone curious about exploring Oman independently.
Wedding Season Update – Honeymoons & Hello in Inverness
I’ll be exhibiting at the Highland Registrars Wedding Show in Inverness on 15th February.
If you’re attending, do pop by my stall and say hello – I always love chatting travel plans, especially honeymoons with a twist.
To coincide with the show, I’ve created a new webpage dedicated to bespoke honeymoon holidays in Oman and Abu Dhabi.
While I can absolutely arrange Dubai, my true specialities lie firmly on the road less travelled. Oman and Abu Dhabi offer space, beauty, culture, and a sense of adventure that suits couples looking for something genuinely memorable – not just a hotel stay, but an experience shaped around who they are.
The new page explores:
-
tailor-made honeymoon itineraries in Oman and Abu Dhabi
-
self-drive options, beach stays, desert nights, and mountain escapes
-
relaxed pacing, privacy, and authentic experiences
I’m also increasingly being asked about pre-wedding stag and hen activity holidays, and Oman is a fantastic fit. From desert adventures and wild camping to coastal drives, wadis, and shared experiences that bring people together, these trips are about creating stories before the big day – without the usual clichés.
If you’re planning a honeymoon, a pre-wedding adventure, or simply want ideas beyond the obvious, this new section is a great place to start.
